Little Miss Book Freak

Hey, my name is Georgie and reading books is my greatest passion. I read all kinds of books and I would really like it if you'd ask me to read and review a book you love or have heard of.

Smashed/ Mandy Hager

Smashed - Mandy Hager

4.5 stars

To be honest, I started reading this book like two years ago and didn't really get into it but now it was part of my TBR challenge and I am  SO glad I picked it up! this book got me guessing and theorizing until the last few pages and it was fast paced and engrossing.

This book was a real page- turner and had some tough topics that Mandy Hager did an excellent job of covering. Because this book has elements of rape and suicide in it, I would recommend it to 15+

I love the main character- Toby, his character development and how he analyses everything. His whole way of thinking is very mature and fascinating. I also liked all the other characters in this book- they were all entertaining, deep and interesting.

Command Performance/ Nora Roberts

Command Performance - Nora Roberts

4 stars

I read this book during the book-reading-rush that comes after a long book slump, so I enjoyed every little thing about it.

I don't really know which I enjoyed more- the romance in this story or the suspense, because both were really good. I loved how Eve and Alex were so entirely different from each other, yet they seemed to fit so perfectly together.

It was one of those books that made you really angry at the characters for not seeing what you see- how they so obviously belong together (which I love)

At times I thought Alexander's strength and alpha-male-ness was sexy and cute, but there were times when I was like 'whoa dude take it down a notch' , but all in all I liked him. I also really liked Bennett's character- it was fun to read and very light.

as I said, the suspense was also really good, but I'm not going to say anything about it because this is a spoiler- free review, I'll just say that again, the end was the first thing you thought it would be but then forgot about because you didn't think it would be that obvious, so that when it did happen, you kind of freaked out a little.

Affaire Royale/ Nora Roberts

Affaire Royale - Nora Roberts

3 stars

Okay, I'll admit. The rating I gave this book might not be fair because for more than half this book, I was in the middle of a serious reading slump. Most likely it was just me, but I felt like the beginning was kind of slow and not really interesting.

Near the end of the book, I finally got out of my reading slump and then this book was awesome. It was still a little slow at parts, but much faster and more interesting. The romance was okay, and only near the very end, Nora took the action up a notch, which I loved. It was one of those plot twists that was so obvious, that you thought that there is no way that this is the plot twist, and when it is, you're were still shocked.

I liked most of the characters. I loved that even in a country where women are still inferior to men in some aspects, Gabriella stood strong, took no shit from anybody, made her own plans and didn't wait for any man to decide her fate for her.

I liked Reeve in the sense that with his reason and sensibility he balanced her out, but he had so much passion, just like her, so their scenes were very believable and tense.

All in all, I liked this book.

Two Way Street/ Lauren Barnholdt

Two-Way Street - Lauren Barnholdt

2 stars

Let's just say- I didn't finish this book in 2 days because I liked it.

Okay, so I promised myself I wouldn't focus only on the negative so here are the few things I did like- first of all, the writing was clear and I didn't get confused at all by the P.O.V changes and all the flashbacks. I guess Lauren tried her best to show us how teenagers' emotion can go crazy fast, but it just felt a little fake and silly.

I didn't like the main character at all. Although I understand how the things that happened to her throughout the story affected her feelings and actions, but still, too often I thought she was either being a drama queen, rude, selfish, or a hypocrite.

At first I thought I liked Jordan a little better because he explained why he did the things he did, but then I realized he was no better than her, trying to save his own ass and thinking only about himself and not caring who he hurt in the process.

Not to mention, the characters were in love with themselves and extremely shallow- a terribly annoying stereotype about teenagers.

To sum up, I didn't completely enjoy this book, but it is definitely up to you to decide for yourself- this is just my opinion- maybe I expected too much.

The Temptation Of Lila And Ethan

The Temptation of Lila and Ethan - Jessica Sorensen

3.75 stars

I know this story actually got some pretty harsh review, but I actually really enjoyed this book. I loved Lila and Ethan as individuals- I think both characters were genuine and had sad yet believable backgrounds. I also liked them as a couple- I think they were really adorable together and although some things did bother me, like how dependent she was on him, and how unbelievably fast her recovery was, I still really liked this story- it was cute, funny, sad and sexy. I would recommend it to someone 16+ (I think- maybe 17+ if you're not comfortable with sexual themes yet.)

The Art Of Hearing Heartbeats/ Jan- Philipp Sendker

The Art of Hearing Heartbeats - Jan-Philipp Sendker

5 stars

'The Art Of Hearing Heartbeats' is probably one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read. Never mind that the story is a beautiful and heartbreaking one, and that the characters' lives are so smartly intertwined in a way that leaves you questioning everything until the last page. The emotional and picturesque way Jan-Philipp Sendker describes everything is what makes that book a piece of art. every sound, sight, touch and taste are described with such detail, it makes your heart flutter. It was a beautiful book but it could bore someone who doesn't like beating around the bush. There was one sex scene, but it wasn't graphic, so I think that's not really a problem.

regardless, I really recommend reading this book sometime in your life, maybe when you're more patient :)

The Destiny Of Violet And Luke

The Destiny of Violet and Luke - Jessica Sorensen

3 stars

'The Destiny Of Violet And Luke' had a great plot and an end that left my mouth hanging open in shock. Violet And Luke had great chemistry and as characters they were extremely interesting. it was a fast paced page- turner, but I can't give it the number of stars it probably deserves, because I read when I was like 14 and then again when I was 15 and I think this book was a bit rough and maybe I'm being too harsh, but that's the feeling I got. It had pretty graphic scenes in it and maybe if I read it FOR THE FIRST TIME when I was much older I would have appreciated it more, but... anyway I think you should probably be 16 to read it or maybe even 17 if you don't like this kind of stuff. But all in all, it was interesting, sexy and fun to read.

The Secret Of Ella And Micha/ Jessica Sorensen

The Secret of Ella and Micha - Jessica Sorensen

4 stars

I just finished reading this book and it was amazing! it was much lighter than 'The Destiny Of Violet And Luke' but still had some dark and sexy themes. I loved Micha, he was sweet, sexy and genuine, and his love for Ella was inspiring. I also liked Ella, she was a bit of a bitch at first and I wasn't so sure about her, but then as the story progressed I understood her reasons for acting the way she did. I think Lila and Ethan were really cute and I can't wait to read 'The Temptation Of Lila And Ethan'!

I think this book suites 16+ but I guess it depends on how much you feel comfortable with sexual themes, although I don't think anything was too graphic, but maybe that's just me :D

Anyway, read it and let me know what YOU think!

Outback Boss, City Bride

Outback Boss, City Bride - Jessica Hart

3.75 stars

Okay, so I may be a little biased.

I'm half Aussie and since I don't live there, I'm kind of obsessed with everything about it. regardless if I'm biased or not, 'Outback Boss, City Bride' was a great read. it was fluffy, light, and a little sexy. The main characters had great chemistry (though not so much at first). It was kind of predictable, but still really sweet and a hard book to put down. I read it in a few hours and really enjoyed it. It's good if you want something light that doesn't really make you think about the meaning of life and whatnot. I really recommend it to every chick-lit lover.

The Declaration/ Gemma Malley

The Declaration - Gemma Malley

4.5 stars

'The Declaration' is one of those rare books that can change the way you look at life and haunt you long after you've finished reading it. Because it is written from the point of view of a innocent young girl who truly believes this outrageous world she lives in is just, it was heartbreaking at times, and truly shook you to the core. It is impossible to stay indifferent while reading this book. It is a book you can read a thousand times and it will still grip you and get you all kinds of emotional. If it isn't obvious, I love this book and think it's amazing. about it being age appropriate- I think it just depends on how mature you are- it's not violent or sexual, but I think it's better to read it when you can read between the lines and understand the depth of it. I first read it when I was 13 or 14 and I still enjoy it (I'm almost 16)

Italian For Beginners/Kristin Harmel

Italian for Beginners - Kristin Harmel

4 stars

'Italian For Beginners' was a fantastic read. It was funny, sweet, touching and had lots of twists and turns. The main character Cat was believable, funny, smart, independent and lovable. The book had a lot of romance in it, with side dishes of friendship and family. The main focus was not necessarily on the men in the story, but more on Cat and how she developed. Kristin somehow made me fall for all the characters, which doesn't happen all that often (and gave me a whiplash of confused emotions). This book was a semi- light read, which is great if you want something light between dark reads, but not too cheesy and predictable.
